4 Things You Need to Do After the Exterminator Leaves

Posted on 2019-04-23

Well, the exterminator just left. Thank goodness that pest nightmare is over and now we will never have to give infestation a second thought ever again, right? … Not exactly.

You want to ensure that your home is pest-free over the long term, so there is a bit of homework that you will want to do afterwards.

Here are 3 things you should do after your exterminator leaves.

1. Keep Checking For Pest

Keep monitoring for the signs of any future pest, whether it’s:

These were not a welcome addition to your home the last time they showed up, so be sure to look for the signs that they are completely exterminated.

2. Cut Down on the Clutter

This is an especially important step if you were dealing with mice or other rodent infestation.

Mice love clutter, so keep your floors, tables and other surfaces as clean as possible as not to attract any more unwanted house guest. This may mean a bit of time spent organizing and purging things you’ve been meaning to throw out for a while now.

3. Clean Up

If you were dealing with a bed bug infestation, you will likely be advised to give your clothes, carpets, curtains, and furniture with hot water whenever possible.

Your exterminator may also advise you to throw out any food or other items that may have been contaminated.

A good and through cleaning will also just help you feel like you’re hitting the reset button after dealing with an infestation.

4. Ask What Else You Can Do

Again, this is not a problem you want to have again any time soon, so be sure to ask your exterminator if there are any follow up steps that you should follow.

This may include any of the steps above, or blocking small holes or access points so that no future pests can invade your home.
