5 Signs Your Home Isn't As Bug-Free As You Think

You don’t see any bugs, so there must be no problem. Right? Wrong.

One of the biggest problems with any sort of infestation is you may not know you have a problem until you see something scurry across the floor. But that doesn’t mean you didn’t have a problem before.

Your home could be full of any number of species of insects, without you knowing.

1. You Start Noticing (What Looks Like) Bites

This is one of the telltale signs.

You start to itch, or you notice a series of tiny dots or discoloration on your arms, legs or body.

This could be bed bugs or spiders. You should contact an exterminator as soon as possible.

2. You Notice A New Smell

It may start out subtle at first. You may not know what it is or exactly where it’s coming from. But as the days progress, the smell gets stronger. It finally gets strong enough for you to find out where it’s coming from.

Once you find the source, as you feared, the smell is coming from droppings.

Again. It’s time to call an exterminator.

3. Your Neighbours Have a Problem

If your neighbour has a pest problem, does that mean you do too? Maybe.

If you live in a house, you might be Ok. There is obviously more physical space between you and your neighbour. You’re less likely to share an insect problem, but mice and rodents are still a possibility.

However, if you’re in a townhouse, condo or apartment building, you’re sharing walls, balconies, and hallway carpets with your neighbours. The odds of sharing a problem are much, much higher.

If your neighbour has a problem you should definitely get your living spaces checked right away.

4. Things are Out of Place

Rodents and insects make their nests out of household items like pieces of cardboard, stuffing from furniture, or scraps of clothing and fabric. You may see the evidence of their nests before you ever see them.

So be on the lookout for piles or trails of the above-mentioned materials.

5. You Can Hear Something

You might hear a scratching or “scurrying” noise late at night. You may be comfortable in bed and convince yourself it’s nothing. Or maybe you just don’t want to admit you have a problem.

But, you more than likely do have a problem and ignoring it won’t make it go away. If you have pests moving around between your walls, in your attic, or under your floorboards, they will keep doing so until you do something about it.
